An Socach and Sgurr nan Ceathreamhan

Strange who you bump into up a hill!
Accessed these two by cycling in 7 miles from the road end in Glen Affric.  Not all uphill on the way in, but felt like it was on the way out!  A long day.

From the road alongside Loch Affric, looking across to the shoulder of Sgurr na Lapaich and Tom a'Choinich perhaps behind.

And I think the one in the middle will be An Tudair, a top connected to Mam Sodhail.  Pretty anyway.

Looking West I think those are the rear ends of the hills above the Cluanie Inn?  Who knows.

And after all those miles I arrived at Alltbeithe Youth Hostel, reputedly Scotland's most remote hostel, just in time to see those folk leave.  Later dudes.  The hill above them is Ciste Dhubh

I am headed up there, to the beleach at the top of the path, then up An Socach on the right before heading the other way up Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan.

Looking back down on Alltbeithe, with Ciste Dhubh and to the right Beinn Fhada.  Brilliant

As I got higher I could see the back of Mullach Fraoch choire on the left, Ciste Dhubh and Beinn Fhada.

Once I got to the beleach I could see North (North East), down Gleann a' Choillich to An Socach north of Loch Mullardoch, and going right Beinn Fhionnladh, Carn Eige and Mam Sodhail - resplendent.

First real glimpse of Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan.  Further than it looks!

From the top of An Socach (didn't take too long), again looking North East

And a panorama looking South, from left to right Sal Chaorainn and Sgurr nan Conbhairean, Mullach Froach choire, way off the South Glen Shiel Ridge, Ciste Dhubh, Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg,
Ben Fhada, and on the right my next target, Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan.  Makes the whole thing worthwhile.

And just Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan

Heading there, another look to the North East - same hills!.  On the left is Mullach na Dheiragain

And to the South, now we can see A'Chralaig behind Mullach Froach choire, and Aonach Meadhoin behind Am Bathaich, as well as Ciste Dhubh on the right

Top getting closer

Another look North (and East), but this time we can also see the top of An Riabhachain between the Mullardoch An Socach and Beinn Fhionnlaidh.

And South again with from left to right Sal Chaorainn and Sgurr nan Conbhairean, then Mullach Froach choire, and now way off we can make out Aonach Mor, Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis, then
the South Glen Shiel Ridge, Ciste Dhubh, and behind that Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg.  This is what I pay my money for!

Nearly forgot, here to climb this hill.

Looking back down the ridge I have come up so far

And then suddenly the top.  This is after Robin's party had passed, and messed up the snow.  West to the second top, Skye, the world!

Just as I popped over onto the top I came across Robin and his cohorts - so much for getting away from it all!  Hadn't seen this guy for about 25 years!

Bye Robin.  After about 25 years this was an odd place to bump into an old friend!  They are off to do Mullach na Dheiragain.  I am heading for home as it was getting late.

There they go, out the ridge to Mullach na Dheiragain.   To the right we get another view of Carn Eige and Mam Sodhail, and way down there on the right hand side An Socach that I did first, without even any snow on it.

And obligatory North facing picture.  Can see Saileag now too, and loads more.

The ridge I need to retrace my steps along, until the beleach where the path descends back to Alltbeithe

And another look back at the hill.

Final view of those hills above the Cluanie Inn

Resting on the cycle out - a long unpleasant cycle.
