At the second attempt I managed to climb An Socach on the north side of Loch Mullardoch
This time from the Loch Mullardoch approach rather than the Killilan end that I made my last attempt from.
![]() An early start to get up to Loch Mullardoch for the long walk in and out from An Socah. Early sighting of Toll Creaghach. |
![]() |
![]() Starting up the loch side, before any real path was found. Tom a Choinich looking a bit misty. Is that Beinn Fhionnlaidh at the back? That was last week's big day out. |
![]() Alt Mullardoch, proving difficult to cross. |
![]() Still no path, but at least the shoulder of Sgurr na Lapaich was getting closer (slowly). |
|
![]() On we go, into the misty hinterland. |
![]() And the final view of the dam before turning the corner, not even halfway there yet! |
![]() Weather not appearing to get any better over An Socah (almost straight ahead and up to the right!). |
![]() Over the loch to ? |
![]() And back down the Loch |
![]() Finally reached Glen Cannich, time to leave the lochside and head up there. Actually that is An Riabhachain, I need to go up and left into Coire Mhaim. |
![]() Apparently this property is rentable, if you really want to get away from it all, some five miles from the road end! |
![]() Climbing at last. Up the Alt Coire a' Mhaim, looking back east down Loch Mullardoch |
![]() Hilltop still in the clouds |
![]() After hacking across the peat hags, nearly time to disappear into the mist. |
![]() Final look down the Loch |
![]() And eventually through the mist I got to the top. Quite a long way. |
![]() Coming back down, too far to the West, adding another mile or so to the total. And the peat hags look so inviting! |
|
![]() Looking up Gleann a' Choillich towards the other An Socah that I want to do at some point. |
![]() Peat hags, and the An Socah I have just done. |
![]() Coire Mhaim.
|
|
![]() A waterfall on the way back down to Glen Cannich |
![]() Hills still in the mist |
![]() And briefly the weather was just sublime! Toll Creaghach on the left and Tom a'Choinich on the right. |
|
![]() Looking over the loch towards the ridge that leads up to Carn Eige |
![]() At last, a view of the dam, so home is in sight. |
![]() Back on the track. Looks like Sgurr na Lapaich may well be out the cloud now! On the left, Toll Creagach, all the way down to Beinn Fhionnlaidh at the end of the loch. |
|
![]() And back to the car at last, some nine and a half hours later. Quite a tiring day! |
