Aonach Meadhoin, Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg, and Saileag
Parking up, just West of the Cluanie Inn. Could see the top of A'Chralaig already. |
![]() The Cluanie Inn | |
My word, it's the South Glen Shiel Ridge over there. Just sublime. |
A ptarmigan still in winter plumage, or is that it's summer get up? |
Aonach Meadhoin from the shoulder of Sgurr an Fhuarail, with the start of the Five Sisters behind. Still a way to go then. |
And looking East, A'Chralaig and behind that Sgurr nan Conbhairean and Carn Ghluasaid. On the right is the ridge we came up from the Cluanie |
Just picture-tastic. | ![]() Now where is the munro? |
Aonach Meadhoin from the beleach below Sgurr an Fhuarail. Ciste Dhubh just to the right, and behind it Sgurr nan Ceathreambhan, then on the right Mullach Fraoch choire. What a day. |
And look, there's the South Glen Shiel Ridge. |
Phew, this is hard work. |
![]() But worth every step. Just great.
Always good to see that you have come a long way already. But still some way to go to our first munro for the day. |
At last, a top - Sgurr an Furarail finally achieved (cairn on the far right). Aonach Meadhoin still over there in the middle, and on it's right our next target, Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg. Third summit still hiding, but you can see the Five Sisters on the right, and the ubiquitous South Glen Shiel Ridge on the left |
And of course the view East. On the far left is Sgurr nan Ceathreambnan which I hope to do soon. Then coming to the right we have Ciste Dhubh (tomorrow's hill), Mullach Froach choire and A'Chralaig (the following days hills) and further away Sgurr nan Conbhairean. In the front is Am Balhach which we will also go over tomorrow, just for fun. |
Bit of a down and up |
Actually quite a big down and up. Just done that ridge - and nearly at the top of the first munro |
![]() First munro stood on.
The top. What a relief. Looking West to Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dhearg, and the Five Sisters. Where is our third munro? Going to the left we have the Forcan Ridge/The Saddle and then Sgurr na Sgine. |
That ridge we came up looks a long way down now. | ![]() |
And onto Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dhearg. Still no sign of munro number three! |
Getting closer, slowly. |
Looking down Coire nan Eun and the Alt Cam-ban. Camban bothy not quite in the picture (maybe). |
Further round the Coire nan Eun, looking back to Aonach Meadhoin on the right, and Ciste Dhubh on the left, with Mullach Fraoch choire and A'Chraliag behind - gets kind of repetitive! |
Wait, I have to go out there to get to the summit cairn! Arghhh! |
gHaving gone all that way I needed a seat |
Looking back from the cairn, and to the Five Sisters on the right. Still no sign of Saileag. |
Perched on top of the world. |
And from the top, looking back towards Aonach Meadhoin and Sgurr an Fhuarail, etc etc etc |
Another look at the cairn, perched way out there on the ridge - don't envy the people that built that one! Behind that on the left is Beinn Fhada, but on the right we still have Mullach Fraoch choire and A'Chralaig |
At last, Saileag poking up in front of the Five Sisters. |
That really was quite a spot to build a summit cairn! And behind Aonach Meadhoin etc etc etc |
The Five Sisters of Kintail, from the summit plateau of Sgurr a'Bhealaich |
More of the same, with Saileag in the middle, and the car we left at the end is down on the left by the trees! |
Nearly there. |
Looking back to Sgurr a'Bhealaich Dheirg etc. |
Looking East to some of where we have been |
Looking West to our final hill |
The Five Sisters from the top of Saileag |
From the top of Saileag looking back down the ridge, with Mullach Fraoch-choire on the far left, and A'Chralaig in the middle. |
![]() Look, Five Sisters. | ![]() |
Third munro for the day done. Five Sisters looking tempting, but perhaps a step too far! |
From the beleach an Lapain where we left the ridge |
I was quite taken with Faochag (The Whelk apparently) which is the pyramid hill in the middle. Behind that is Sgurr na Sgine, and on the right The Saddle. Thanks Mark. |
What an excellent day out that was - time for well deserved refreshment.
Back to #19 Dave's Redundancy Munro Tour 2012 - 25 munros in 28 days - I am fair chuffed. Onto #23
