Tom a' Choinich, Carn Eige, Beinn Fhionnlaidh, and Mam Sodhail
![]() 8:07am - the end of the road. Luckily I had planned to park here, for an easier walk in to the East of Am Mellan (albeit a longer walk back out). |
![]() Sgurr na Lapaich rising above Am Mellan, I will be coming back down that ridge later |
![]() Lapaich on the left, with Creag na h-inghimn (shoulder of Tom a Choinich), and the Allt Toll Easa glen raised on the right (my route up) |
![]() Lapaich again, with the Mam Sodhail/Carn Eige ridge in the background. A long way to go. |
![]() Looking back down Allt na Imrich |
![]() Just above the beleach, looking to Toll Creagh |
![]() And looking up to the summit of Tom a'Choinich - into the mist again |
![]() Summit of Tom a'Choinich, and only 10:30am - good progress |
![]() Route down to first of many bealachs - some 3 miles and four more tops to cover before the next munro |
![]() |
![]() Next top - 1032 meters |
![]() |
![]() And now Tom a'Choinich is cloud free - just my luck. |
![]() And now for the slightly scary bit, climbing up to 1131 meter point I think. |
![]() The car is next to that wee bit of Loch Beinn a'Mheadhoin in the distance |
![]() Nearing the top of scary climb, with Tom a'Choinich still back there cloud free |
![]() Top two or three, lost count |
![]() I presume these are the Pinnacles (?) which actually look worse than they were. |
![]() |
![]() And then this trig point appeared, which must be Carn Eige. And that only took 4 and a half hours. |
![]() After that excitiment the route drops about 350 meters before climbing up Beinn Fhionnladh, suprisingly in the cloud! |
|
![]() Yet another false peak on the way up Beinn Fhionnladh |
|
![]() But this makes it worthwhile. From the slopes between Beinn Fhonnlaidh and Carn Eige, looking up Gelann a Choillich. In the cloud on the right is Mullach na Dhreagain, with the Glenn Affric An Socach at the head of the glen, and the Beleach Coire Ghaicheil on the left |
|
![]() Top of Beinn Fhionnlaidh. 5 hours 20 mins. |
![]() The views make it all worthwhile |
![]() |
![]() And the top of Mam Sodhail, after some nifty compass work to find the bealach between this and Carn Eige. Seven and a half hours on the go. |
![]() View from inside the summit cairn |
![]() Then the long walk out over Sgurr na Lapaich. Straight forward, even in the mist, but still 2.5 miles with about 500 meters of climb. As if I hadn't done enough! |
![]() The final peak of Sgurr na Lapaich? |
|
![]() Then a dodgy descent as I came down too early, straight down to Loch Affric. But the view was good. Cloud too low to pick out any munros, but we can see Gleann na Ciche on the back left, and Glen Affric off to the right. Need to get up there for a few more hills. |
|
![]() Getting closer to the road at last, and the four mile walk back to the car. Isn't it pretty? |
![]() From said car (nearly) looking to Tom A'Choinich again. Just over ten hours to cover about 19 miles and four munros. A good start to my week. Tomorrow it's A'Ghlas bheinn for a different view. |
