Carn Mor Dearg
| After a quiet night on Friday we were up at the crack of dawn, and at
the chairlift nice and early for the 8 a.m. climbers lift.
|
Having had a good start up the gondola, we then faced a quick blizzard and a 100 metre descent to Alt Diam before ascending Carn Beag Dearg. Oh for a hangover. |
Over Alt Diam and up we went |
Approaching Carn Dearg Meadhonach. And the going gets tougher. |
Back to the same height we started at from the top of the gondola over there on the right. |
|
On and on we go |
|
Loch Eil |
|
Who can get their crampons on then? |
|
It's steep when the clouds clear. |
The top - decision time - go onto the Carn Mor Dearg arrette, or wimp out and head back the way we came? |
This is what we have just done looks like without snow. |
And the next bit is like this without snow and ice. From the top of Carn Mor Dearg. |
|
|
And on a clear and sunny day with some snow it looks like this. |
Mmmm. Tricky. |
On the Saturday we were there it looked like this. |
I think heading back was the better option right enough! |
Even going back was hard enough without crampons. |
And safely down we go. |
Fort William, almost a welcoming sight! |
Across to Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe - halfway loch. |
Aonach Mor, and the side we came down earlier, from near the bottom.
|
So the arrette and Ben Nevis are still to be conquered. Next time. No pictures of celebratory relaxation afterwards but see earlier sojourns. They are pretty much the same, only the t-shirts change. |
