Carn Dearg and Sgor Gaibhre at Rannoch
Loch Rannoch looking sublime, though the clouds seem a bit low |
Train heading North |
The track in and out. Longer on the way back somehow! |
Rannoch Station on the left, smashing view down Loch Ladden to the Black Mount |
And again, with Beinn Achaladar and Beinn a Chreachan on the left |

Looking back to Loch Eigheach where I started |
|
First big piccie, but still too cloudy to see what we can see, other than the Sron Leachd a'Chaorainn at the start of the ridge, and on the right Sgor Gaibhre (my second target).
Second top on the ridge in front, with Sgor Gaibhre on the right (and Sgor Choinnich behind it) |
|
Mist lifting but not enough yet. |
Another look down Loch Laiddon |
Another top! |
These all look the same, but I think this one is Carn Dearg. |
Still a bit to go on Carn Dearg |
I think we can see the Mamores in the distance. |
The ruins of Corrour Old Lodge down there. |
At last, the top of Carn Dearg, only 3 hours gone. Tip of Sgor Gaibhre on the right |
The top of Carn Dearg, looking towards Beinn na Lap I think. |
So many hills. No idea now which ones these are. |
Next stop over there (stopped about 100 feet up Sgor Gaibhre, this walking is hard going at times) |
Ben Alder and Sgor Gaibhre from top of Carn Dearg |
I think this is North East, with another Aonach Beag range on the left in the clouds - someday perhaps - and then Ben Alder and Sgor Gaibhre on the right |
|
Loch Ericht and Meall na Aighean, Carn Mairg, Meall Garbh and Carn Gorm |
Ben Alder again |
Now we have Binnein Beag in the Mamores on the left, then Nevis in the clouds with some snow on the shoulder, and round the Grey Corries to Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin and Stob Coire Easian |
|
Ben Alder, and Sgor Gaibhre still seeming a long way off |
|
More Mamores, Nevis, Grey Corries, etc. This is what it's all about. Fantastic. |
|
Lost where this was now, but it's pretty. Over Loch Ericht to Geal-Charn, A'Mharconaich, Beinn Udlamain and Sgairneach Mhor ? |
Mamores on left, Nevis in cloud, and the corner of Loch Ossian from the top of Sgor Gaibhre? |
Stob Coire Sgriodian and Chino Dearg perhaps? |
Another view of Loch Ossian and Strath Ossian |
Schieallion to the South East |
Down the Allt Eigheach, where the car was. |
Back to Carn Dearg, with Mamores and Nevis in middle right. Still brilliant. |
Route home down the ridge on the left, which was a lot more up and down than it looks, and a look at the ridge I came up on the right, to the top of Carn Dearg. Mamores, Nevis etc all arrayed behind, then Ben Na Lap over Loch Ossian |
That pointy hill again. |
|
From the top of Sgor Gaibhre, Ben Alder on the right and the Anoach Beag range on the left. Loch Ericht just creeping in on the right. |
|
Mamores and Nevis again |
|
Looking back to Carn Dearg on the left and Sgor Gaibhre on the right, from halfway up Meall na Meoig |
|
Hill fatigue now, just enjoy the views |

Ben Alder and Loch Ericht |

Another summit (not a munro sadly) |
Another look back to Sgor Gaibhre on the right and Carn Dearg on the left - not a bad accomplishment |

Walked it all
Now this is what I call a view. Wonderful. Loch Eigheach hidden on the left and behind that in the distance Stuchd an Lochan, then to the left of Loch Laidon we have Beinn a Chreachan and Beinn Achaladar, along to Stob Ghabar. Behind the Loch we have Creise and Buchalle Etive Mor on the right, then the Aonach Eagach behind the Blackwater Resevoir, then Mamores. I am sure I could see down Glen Etive at one point, but who knows? |
And back to the track. What a day. |
