Stuchd an Lochain and Meall Buidhe
Mark and Stuart did the first one, so I decided to go one better and do two, then Shauna and I returned to do Stuchd an Lochain again. Shame about the weather that day
Setting off |
The dam at Loch an Daimh, and Creag an Fheadain. |
And some years later, Shauna and I start off. |
And Loch an Daimh herself. Note the "Danger of Drowning" sign! |
Time to hit the hill |
Aren't rainbows pretty. Pity it also means rain! |
Quite a steep bit right enough. |
No really! |
Looking across to Ben Lawers ,Meall Corranich and the Tarmachan Ridge. |
The hills are alive. Looking back down towards Glen Lyon from Coire Ban maybe. I think that's Meall na Aighean down there on the mid-left. |

Is that Lochan nan Cat on the right, with the summit of Stuchd an Locain on the left - No. Having now been here I know that is the head of Loch an Daimh. |
And that is Lochan nan Cat, and the summit |
The final mile in all it's glory. |
The top. |
Same top, different day. Pity as we had made really good time. |
And a final pic from my day out with Shauna, passed these people river-climbing on the way back up the track to Lawers. |
Look to the North West - Rannoch Moor, from left to right that must be Stob Ghabar, Creise, Buchaille Etive Mor, and Glen Coe. Kingshouse is down there somewhere too. Brill. |
The Lawers group I think? |
Across Loch an Daimh to Meall Buidhe, my next conquest. |
Looking South to some more hills |
Loch an Daimh from the side of Creag an Fheadain. It was this big. |
The descent |
The tide was out. After a short while, nearly back at the dam - whisky time? |
| Stuart and Mark obviously had better weather, but I decided to persevere and crack the second hill after a quick lunch stop at the car. | Here is Stuart's movie, subtly watermarked as I used a free bit of software to convert the file. I am saving up to pay for the real thing one day. |
From the other side, looking back to Coire Ban - just been there. |
Seems to be a long way |
Atmospheric |
and colourful. |
Found a path, and that is the summit peaking up there - looks further than I thought! |
Stuchd an Lochain |
The end is in sight - just all the way along this ridge |
From the summit of Meall Buidhe, back. That is the peak of Stuchd an Lochain on the right. |
Also from the top, another view of Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe. Now I think that is the shoulder of Beinn a Chreachain on the left, then that could be Beinn nan Aighenan on the left in the distance, then next would be Stob Ghabar, then Creise, Buchaille Etive Mor, and the start of the Aonach Eagach ridge just visible down Glen Coe. Not that it really matters, it was magnificent. |
Another view of Stuchd an Lochain over Loch an Daimh on the return to the car. |
Car and dam on left, loch, and Stuchd an Lochain on the right. |
