Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin and Stob Coire Easian

At last we made it up some hills.  Great weekend, hardly any views, but a great walk and all that.
January 14 we headed up to Fort Augustus to canoe across Loch Quoich and climb some big hills.  Ended up drinking too much whisky and flying a kite.

After that success, last weekend we again made the trip but rather than canoes and kites we actually climbed some hills.

Let's go fly a kite.

A stroll over Carn an t-Suidhe was all we managed.

Can anyone tell us why these mounds are as they are?

Rather than have a long walk to Beinn a Bhacaidh we drove down to Loch Tarf pictured above, and meandered across Murligan Hill to see the view

The view, rather blue in the afternoon light.

Another quiet night in!

Beer has now been taken.

So onto the main feature, the heroic scaling of Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin and Stob Coire Easian and Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin again.  It's all true.

Planning.

Paying attention to the planning process.  Perhaps a beer had been taken?

8.30 a.m. Outside Death Wood, all raring to go.

Being watched.

While we could still see.

Loch Treig, and the ascent towards our first hill on the right.

Quick stop to get changed.  Shoulder of Meall Cian Dearg starts to loom up.

I think this might have been our second hill, who knows?

The steep bit, where the snow started.

On top of Meall Cian Dearg, just another two miles to go.

Smart Yak hat

Stuart, come back, we didn't mean it!

The top of Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin.  Wonderful view.

Lunch in the shelter of the bealach, at least that was the theory.  Most relaxing.

Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

Yep, it's up there somewhere

And this is what Stob Coire Easian would have looked like without the snow.

And at last, the top of Stob Coire Easian.  Very white!

Chuffed.

This was a popular photo spot.

Standing like men at the top.

The long trek back.  Due to inclement conditions we decided to retrace our steps, back over Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin, just for a laugh!  Ha ha.  Still means we did three munros in a day.

Having fun coming back down Meall Cian Dearg.  This would be just before we got to the flatter bit and Craig stuffed his foot - unlucky and very sore I believe.

The going was easier once we got off the scrambly scary bit, but not much!

Limping back down, Craig literally so.

Just been up there, glad to be going the other way now.

This wasn't white on the way up.

And back to Fort Augustus, we were having fun, honest!

Tam O'Shanter not pictured, but suffice to say the haggis, tatties and neaps were most welcome, along with the beer, wine, whisky and port.

Knackered, and somewhat relaxed.

Is this man scary or what?  Maybe it was the pain?

And another view of the hill, or at least the start of the ridge, the next day.

Some hills somwhere the next day.  Very nice.  Can someone enlighten me?

The River Treig, and the mountain is in the background, honest it is there.

That's the baby up there.  Had that one.

Someone else's very nice picture of Stob a'Choire Mheadhoin from the other side of Loch Laggan, with Stob Coire Sgriodain on the left

All in all an excellent weekend, thanks to all.  Apart from my friends on the A9 who cost me three points and £60.
