Mamores for the third time. No trudging at all!
Saturday night at Kinlochleven, beer drunk, tent up, time for a first dram. |
No more drinking (pictured). And the next day..
..a heron enjoying a Sunday morning dip. We didn't join it. |
Breakfast getting underway. Midgies not pictured but they were vicious! |
And packing up before we hit the hill. Lovely spot. |
Heading up the Alt Coire an Ba, with our first target, Stob Coire a' Chairn, up at the top. |
|
View back down the Coire an Ba, with the peak of Buachaille Etive Mor peaking up, and the Aonach Eagach running to the right. Mark is also admiring the view. |
|
No trudging today. |
On the ridge, first hill to the left, and An Garbhanach on the right. |
Am Bodach, from the shoulder of Stob Coire a'Chairn. |
|
Did all of them on our first Mamores outing - Binnein Beag just visible behind the shoulder of Binnein Mor, and on the right Na Gruagachean. |
|
Nearing peak number one. |
And that is number two, scary ridge bit not quite visible! |
Number one - Stob Coire a'Chairn is conquered. You can just make out Loch Linnhe in the middle, to the left of Ben Nevis which is in the clouds as usual. |
An Gearnach from Stob Coire a'Chairn, with one lone walker descending the ridge. |
Looking East: Our first Mamores hills again, Binnein Mor on the left and Na Gruagachean on the right. |
|
And looking West, from left Am Bodach, Stob Ban at the back, and the shoulder of Sgurr a'Mhaim on the right. Just Am Bodach still to do (later the same day). |
|
|
|
Then it was up An Gearanach, more scary than the Aonach Eagach, especially when it's a two way trip! |
|
This is dodgier than it looks. And we had to come back over it too! |
The peak of An Gearnach is just up there now. |
Just had to stick this in at a bigger scale. From the left we see Na Gruagaichean, the top of An Gearnach and it's "interesting" ridge, Stob Coire a'Chairn, Am Bodach, and the rest of the Ring of Steal, round to Sgurr a'Mhaim. This is what it's all about.
And another biggie -
Binnein Beag , the impressive Binnein Mor,
and on the right Na Gruagachean and a mountain man who has done all them,
in one day. Pensioners not pictured!
Going back down An Gearanach after the scary bits (remind me never to do this hill again!), before we reclimbed Stob Coire a'Chairn to get home. |
|
And from the top of Am Bodach, back to Stob Coire a'Chairn and An Gearnach on the left, and Na Gruagaichean and then Sgurr Eile Mor on the right. The business. |
|
Looking South I think from Am Bodach, to Buachille Etive Mor and so much more. |
|
And a last look back at where we have been today and the first Mamores trip. If anyone else fancies a trip up here we would happily come back. Great hills. |
