Bidean a'Choire Sheasgaich and Lurg Mhor
![]() Tent is down there somewhere. This is close to the top of Bealach Bhearnais, looking up Gleann Fhiodhaig. |
![]() South ridge of Sgurr Choinnich on the left, and Lurg Mhor on the right, from the slopes of Beinn Tharsuinn |
![]() The Beinn Tharsuinn ridge now obscuring Lurg Mhor, but Bidean a'Choire Sheasgaich is poking up on the right. |
![]() To the North West, Maol Chean-dearg, Sgorr Ruadh and Beinn Liath Mhor |
![]() Still to get over Tharsuinn on the left, then it's Bidean a'Choire Sheasgaich. Apparently there is a way up that rock face, but I went round. |
![]() Nearly at the top of Tharsuinn. Loch Monar and the Mullardoch hills looking good |
![]() More Loch Monar, with Sgurr Choinnich and Sgurr a'Chaorachain on the left |
![]() From the top of Beinn Tharsuinn, Loch Monar to the left, then round to Lurg Mhor and Bidean a'Choire Sheasgaich on the right. Quite a way to go then still. |
![]() North to Torridon, we have on the left Maol Chean-dearg, off in the distance Liathach (?), then Sgorr Ruadh, and finally the ridge and summit of Beinn Liath Mhor looking resplendent |
![]() More Torridon hills |
![]() This looked too difficult, so I went round to the right, which was marginally easier |
![]() Looking down Loch Monar from the dip between Tharsuinn and Bidein a'Choire Sheasgaich |
![]() Lurg Mhor, from the shoulder of Bidein a'Choire Sheasgaich |
![]() Nearly at the top, the view was quite good. Name check Beinn Tharsuinn on the left, then we can just see the cliffs of Sgurr nan Ceannaichean (recently demoted) behind Sgurr Choinnich. Sgurr a'Chaorachain is in there too. Off in the distance behind Loch Monar covered in snow are Sgurr Fhuar-thuill, and Sgurr a'Choire Ghlais. On the right is the far ridge of Lurg Mhor. |
![]() The top of Bidean a'Choire Sheasgaich, one of the more remote munros in Scotland - it was mobbed! |
![]() Lurg Mhor from the top of Sheasgaich |
![]() More Torridon hills over there. Can make out Maoll Chean-dearg on the left, and the Beinn Liath Mhor ridge to the right. |
![]() From the beleach between Sheasgaich and Lurg Mhor, looking back to Sheasgaich on the left, Tharsuinn in the middle, and on the right Sgurr Choinnich and Sgurr a'Chaorachain. I need to come back down here, then head up the Allt Bealach Crudhain to Bealach Bhearnais between Tharsuinn and Chonnich to get back to the tent and bike. |
![]() Final push up Lurg Mhor |
![]() The top. And another look North and East. Tharsuinn ridge on the left, Bealach Bhernais in the middle, looking a long way off, then Sgurr Choinnich, Sgurr a'Chaorachain and at the back Maoile Lunndaidh |
![]() To the North West, Torridon again. Brilliant. |
![]() And to the East, the second top and the Meall Mor ridge, with the hills north of Strathfarrar way off in the distance again on the left, and the Loch Mullardoch range on the right. |
![]() Lurg Mhor, from below. | ![]() Imagine my surprise when I came across mother and cub badger sitting on the grass. They bolted, but the young one couldn't resist having a quick peep to see if I was real. Made my day. |
![]() Slopes of Lurg Mhor on the right, Loch Monar down there, and Sgurr Choinnich, on the left |
![]() Lurg Mhor and Bidean a'Choire Sheasgaich from Bealach an Sgoltaidh |
![]() Loch Monar |
![]() Final view of Lurg Mhor from Bealach Bhearnais |
![]() Now just to go down there, strike camp, and find somewhere else to stay tonight |
![]() Gratuitous bike and bag picture |
![]() Final track and Torridon hills pictures - don't think I will get back up here. |
![]() |
![]() An ideal spot, within staggering distance of a hostelry |
![]() However I had to share the field with these guys, and cockerels crow at first light! |
