Another big day out, the Strathfarrar hills -without a bike!

Bike now on order!
Luckily I had been tipped off about this, and had got the secret code
from the Mountaineering Council of Scotland in advance.  Otherwise
there would have been another 9 miles in and out!

Kind of makes it all worthwhile.  Tempted to forgo the hills and just sit here all day.  I think that is Sgurr na Lapaich up there.

10:48  Handy carpark, only another 5 miles or so to walk along the road, before we can start the up-hill stuff.  But at least the route down comes out here.

It was a nice morning for a walk though.

With interesting things to see along the way

And still the road wound on.

The back of Sgurr na Lapich hoving back into view on the left

11:53  Same hill from nearly the end of the road for me, time to climb some hills.

And here we go, after the steep climb out of Glen Strathfarrar, a view towards Sgurr Fhuar-thuill, the first munro of the day, off in the distance.

And on the right I think that is my second target, Sgurr a'Choire Ghlais.  Long way still to go then.

Time for a rest, and a look back.

Loch Toll a'Mhuaic

Further into the corrie - it was roasting at this point.

Ascending the slopes below Sgurr ne Fearstaig.  Very impressive.

And again very impressive, from slightly higher.

And on reaching the ridge, this is the view towards the first and second munros for the day.

14:18   Memory now hazy, but I think this is the top of Sgurr Fhuar-thuill, looking back down to Loch Toll a'Mhuic that I passed earlier.

And to the South and West, so many hills.  North and South Mullardoch, and to the right - who knows?

From Sgurr Fhuar-thuill, back to Sgurr na Fearstaig and West to all sorts.

Way to go.  Second hill in the middle, fourth one just behind on the left, and third one out on the left - not far now!

Sgurr a'Ghlais from the top of Creag Ghorm a'Bhealaich.  Further than it looked.

And looking back to Sgurr Fhuar-thuill from the same point.  Ascent started from Glen Strathfarrar on the left.  Perhaps I should have come up the ridge instead of the corrie - well something to do next time!

Sgurr a'Ghlais.  Still along way down and up too.

15:10  Top of Sgurr a'Ghlais (or one of them, two cairns and a trig point - how confusing).  And the last two hills, Carn non Gobhar just to the left of the trig point and Sgurr na Ruaidhe on the right - nae bother!

West back down the ridge to Creag Ghorm a'Bhealaich and Sgurr Fhuar-thuill, and behind the Mhuic ridge lies Loch Monar, and to the left the North Mullardoch hills.  Just brilliant.

And to the North of the ridge (Creag Ghorm a'Bhealaich and Sgurr Fhuar-thuill on the left) the world was full of hills.  I presume we can see the Glencarron hills that I have still to do, and beyond that Torridon.  One of the ones on the right should be Fionn Bheinn that Mark and I did a couple of days earlier.

Told you there were three tops on this one!

Looking back to Glen Strathfarrar, where I will end up later.

Gazing down on Carn nan Gobhar, and behind it Sgurr na Ruaidhe - you would almost think it was all downhill from here.

From the slopes of Carn nan Gobhar, looking back to Sgurr a'Choire Ghlais on the left, with Sgurr Fhuar-thuill behind Creag Ghorm a'Bhealaich in the middle.  Just done all that.  What a nice day.

From near the top of Carn nan Gobhar, looking back to Sgurr a'Choire Ghlais on the left, with Sgurr Fhuar-thuill behind Creag Ghorm a'Bhealaich in the middle.  Just done all that.  What a nice day.

Last hill over there, then home to rest.

15:57  The route I have followed to get to the top of Carn nan Gobhar.  Impressive.

16:39  And then the top of Sgurr na Ruaidhe, just like that!  On the right is Sgurr a'Choire Ghlais and the slopes of Carn nan Gobhar.  Sun was going down, so time to head for home.

Carn nan Gobhar from Sgurr na Ruaidhe.  What a backdrop.

On the way down Coire Mhuillidh, with the sun just catching Carn nan Gobhar

The setting sun seemed to make Coire Mhuillidh go rather green.  Sgurr a' Choire Ghlais disappearing into the sunset.

Final glimpse of Sgurr a' Choire Ghlais

17:50  And a sighting of the car at last.  Now just the four hour drive home - and worth every minute

Back to #14   Dave's Redundancy Munro Tour 2012 - 25 munros in 28 days - I am fair chuffed.  Onto #19
