Fannich Forest Munros - Three glorious days away
| Had planned a two day sojourn, but combination of traffic, forgetting something, and getting up too late meant only time for three hills on the first day, four on day two and the last two on day three. |
![]() Parking up off the A832. Hills on the left are my first target, Meall a'Chrasgaidh and Sgurr nan Clach Geala. On the right is Sgurr Breac which we get to on day three. 10:30am |
Day improved as I progressed up the glen, though the river was difficult to cross |
Really need to be on the other side of that |
Finally managed to cross the Allt Breabaig just passed the ruined cottage. |
![]() Looking West to Sgurr Breac |
Behind me, An Teallach covered in cloud. |
![]() Sgurr Breac on the left, Toman Coinnich and behind that the second munro over there, A'Chailleach. Ascent by the Drum Riach ridge on day three. Way behind are Slioch, the Fisherfields and An Teallach on the right. Impressive |
First decent sighting of Sgurr nan Clach Geala (second target for day one). |
![]() Top of Meall a' Chrasgaidh, with Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich visible mid left, Sgurr Mor in the middle, and Sgurr nan Clach Geala to the right. You could do all these in a big day - maybe next time? |
![]() Another look at the hills for day three - had originally planned to do them today too, but just short of time. |
![]() Another from the top of Meall a'Chrasgaidh, looking to Sgurr nan Clach Geala on the left, and day three on the right. |
![]() And another view from the top looking West, with A' Chailleach on the left, and behind that Slioch, in the middle the Fisherfields, and An Teallach still in the cloud on the right. |
Loch a'Mhadaidh with Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich behind. |
Sgurr nan Clach Geala |
![]() Those hills to the West again |
![]() Sgurr Mor looking quite white, with Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich behind on the left. Could easily to that from here, but I am going right, onto Sgurr nan Clach Geala then further down that ridge |
Meall a' Chrasgaidh from shoulder of Sgurr nan Clach Geala. |
The views make it all worthwhile - top of Sgurr nan Clach Geala |
This is supposed to be one of the best of these hills, but sadly it was hard to see! |
![]() Mists cleared to reveal the ridge to Sgurr nan Each, with Loch Fannich behind |
![]() Day three hills etc and the slopes of Sgurr nan Clach Geala. Fantastic |
![]() |
![]() And day two hills -Sgurr Mor, Meall Gorm and way off in the distance An Coileachan, with Loch Fannich behind. This was impressive. |
Getting closer |
Final summit for the day, Sgurr nan Each. Now just six miles back down the Allt Breabaig to find a campsite for the night. 3:00pm |
Back Back across the Allt Breabaig at the ruin, looking to Meall a'Chrasgaidh and Sgurr non Clach Geala and up the glen. |
![]() Back on the track to the road, with Meall a'Chrasgaidh and Sgurr non Clach Geala to the left, and Sgurr Breac and A'Chailleach on the right |
Perfect spot for a couple of nights. Bliss. |
![]() Just wonderful really. All sorted by 6:30pm |
| Day Two Day Three |
