Buachaille Etive Mor
Early morning shot of the Buachaille, through a dirty car window. I am going to do from left to right, then 2/3rds of the way left again along that ridge. |
My selected route up the Southern end of the ridge - not a good idea, I don't recommend this to anyone! Steeper than it looks! |
However the view down Glen Etive was nice, as long as you don't look down! Ben Starav just hidden on the left. |
The start of Buachaille Etive Beag. Still a long way up to go. |
Now you can see Ben Starav on the left, and that is Beinn Sgulaird on the far right? |
Full view of the Buachaille Etive Beag |
I think that may be Stob Ghabhar on the middle-right, peaking over some other hills. |
| Looking South:
So we should have Stob Ghabhar the first high peak on the left, then Stob Coir an Albannaich jutting out over Beinn Chaorach, then Ben Starav just to the left of Loch Etive, with Beinn Sgulaird then a dip then Beinn Fhiannlaidh, and round to Sgurr na h-Ulaidh. So many mountains, and we've done them all
And looking North West we have the Buachalle Etive Beag ridge in the sun, with the highly regarded Aonach Eagach ridge behind and the Mamores on the right - now they look big and scary! |
The long ridge of Beinn Sgulaird on the left, Loch Creran, and Beinn Fhionnlaidh on the right, or maybe not? |
Another look down Glen Etive, with Ben Starav in all it's brutal splendour. Maybe someday we will do that one again too? |
From the top of my first munro for the day, Stob na Broige - Buachaille Etive Mor laid out in front. Just those three peaks to get over and back before I can go down. On the right is the shoulder of Creise and in the background I think we can see Schieallion. |
And back to Loch Etive - seems a long way away already. |
You would think they would count that big bugger in the middle as a munro too? It was certainly hard enough going. Final target of Stob Dearg in the distance still. |
Over the top of Buachaille Etive Beag we see Bidean nam Bain, the highest peak in Argyll, and Stob Coire nan Lochain |
Another view back to Glen Etive - the car is getting further away. That is Stob Coire Altruim and Stob na Brogie that I have just traveresed in the front, and the route home down on the right. |
And looking back to where I have been again. Unfortunately I have to go back over the first peak here to get down. Damn bad planning! |
The final munro for the day - Stob Dearg. Rannoch Moor on the right. |
From the top of Stob Dearg, looking back down the ridge, with Etive Beag to the right, and Bidean nam Bain behind, then the Ballachulish Bridge and the Aonach Eagach ridge on the right - makes it all worthwhile. |
This looks like an earlier one, but shows the South end of the ridge that I don't need to go back over, the route drops off to the right down there. On the right is Bidean nam Bain , but you had probably guessed that by now? |
Descending into Lairig Gartain, looking back up. Much drier than last time. |
Glen Etive from the watershed of Lairig Gartain - a long walk in the hot sun. |
And a final view of the imposing bulk of Buachaille Etive Mor from the Glent Etive road end. |
And home for tea - how civilized. < | |
