The West Highland Way, May 2011

Day Two: Drymen to Rowardennan - 14 miles

Up and down, up and down.  But we made it.

A new bit of the world for me, heard it's nice up the side of Loch Lomond.  And between the showers it was lovely!

Ready to head off from Glenalva.  What a team.  Stewart and Catherine just on their way.

Loch Lomond looking good.  Much more to come.

Out of the woods, next it's up Conic Hill

Loch Lomond to the left, Conic Hill to the right.  A hill at last.  We climb to 1000 feet, or 1175 if you go to the top.

More Loch Lomond.  And the tour guide.

Where we have come from round on the left, to Loch Lomond and the shoulder of Conic Hill

Loch Lomond and the top of Conic Hill.  Today's walk will take us even further up the Loch than we can see.

Going up Conic Hill, looking back to the path.

Another view of the path, is that my Dad down there?

Another Loch Lomond view, from the top of Conic Hill itself.  Now we can see the rain and hail that is coming our way.

Yesterday we started off to the right of the middle, as far back as you can see.  Not bad going so far.  Drymen is down there somewhere too.

On the path under Conic Hill top, before the descent to Balmaha.

Path down to Balmaha

It was lovely in the woods.

First pint of the day, and it was nearly after noon!

Craigie Fort

The top of Craigie Fort, supposed to give "extensive views" of the Arrochar Alps.  Sadly not today.

Time to hit the beach.

Ben Lomond rising up beside us.

Dram stop.  And jackets off, the rain has stopped, but midgie cream on!

And to the Rowardennan Hotel.   Time for a beer.
