Conival (three times in all) and Ben More Assynt.

Some nice hills, but hard work after  yesterday's Ullapool Hills jaunt.
Day Two - Conival (and as it was in February) and Ben More Assynt.

When I did this in Feburary it was very misty and snowy, but I did get up Conival.

September 2013.  7:30 am.  A much better day.

And this was from the first time.  Still the easiest place to put up a tent in the dark here.

Car park left behind at the loch side, as the path starts to climb up Gleann Dubh.  The second time I had just about decided to turn back by now given my sore leg,
but realised the pub wasn't open for ages, so pressed on.

First glimpse of a bit of the mountain from February.

It was a nice walk up the side of the River Traligill both times.

Looking back down the hill, and over to Suliven etc.

Initial sight of the ridge.  A much better day than last time.

Still some way to go.

Next time the cloud lifted in February I could at least see where I had been, and spotted a much easier route back down.

No such problems in September.  Looking back down to Inchnadamph.

Conival on the right, and Ben More Assynt to the left.

View north east, over Gorm Loch Mor

Loch Assynt and Quinag.

The summit shelter, on a nice day.

Similar view in Feburary.  It was around this point I decided to turn back in Feb.!

No turning back in September though, despite my very sore leg, I bravely limped on.  Just this ridge to cross to the top of  Ben More Assynt.

Crossing the ridge, admiring Dubh Loch Mor.  Apparently there is a route down there!

Yay, top of Ben More Assynt, looking back to Conival

Looking out to the north east again.

Not entirely clear which cairn was the top, but big hills to the South, and interesting ones to the West

Second cairn, just in case, though I think the first one was higher?

View back across the ridge to Conival.  As you may know, that is the way back from Ben More Assynt, so I have to climb Conival again!

Well deserved lunch and rest.  All the ibuprofen used up!

Back on Conival, in the sun.

And Conival rocks in February.

After going over Conival for the third time, a final rest.  Met a guy who only had five munros to do, which rather put my fourteen in the shade!
Looking back to the top of Conival on the right, with Ben More Assynt on the left.  This was just perfect.

To the North, wiht Ben Hope on the right in the distance.

And from the other side of the rocks, a better view North East, with Ben Hope mid-left and Ben Klibreck in the distance on the right.

Coming down in February, eventually the clouds lifted - why does that happen so much!   Think that's Canisp?

Nice walk back out though both days.  This was February.

Final view of the hill in September

Final view of the hill in February, note all the cloud cleared from the top!

Watch out, river in a cave!

A last final view from February.  Great hill, and happy to go back up this one sometime.
