Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, Carn an t-Sagairt Mor, Carn a'Choire Bhoidheach and Cac Carn Beag/Lochnagar

Quick day out, round Loch Muick and up five munros!

Parked at Spittal of Glenmuick - £3.00 - but there was a toilet and good paths!  Left there about 11:30am I think.   Cycled up to the lodge at Glas alt-Shiel with the intention of camping out there somewhere after the round.  This is heading away from there to the top of Loch Muick.  Path I took goes along the far away face, straight to the top.

Alt an Dubh Loch

View down Loch Muick.  Glas alt-Shiel in the trees on the left, car park at the other end of the loch.

Climbing out of Glen Muick towards Corrie Chash

Loch Muick.  Impressive.

First hill, Broad Cairn.  With the White Mounth behind,

"Famous" Sandy's Hut.

Top of Broad Cairn (#1), looking west to Cairn of Gowal and Carn Bannoch (#2), then to her right Carn an t-Sagairt Mor (#3), round to Carn a'Choire Bhoidheach (#4) and finally the White Mounth.  Lochnagar (#5) just off to the right.  1:30pm so two hours or so to get here.

There we go, the White Mounth on the left, and the top of Cac Carn Beag (or is it Mor) at the top of Lochnagar over there.

And from Broad Cairn you do get a good view down Loch Muick.

South from the top - Should be able to see Mayar out there, but it is all a bit flat.

Half an hour later, the top of Cairn Bannoch - this is really too easy.  And that is the top of Lochnagar over there.

View back to Broad Cairn.

And to the west, Carn an t-Sagairt Mor, then round to the right past Carn an t-Sagairt Beag to Carn a' Choire Bhoidheach and far right is Lochnagar top itself.  This is too easy.

Half way to Cairn an t-Sagairt Mor, looking down into Coire Loch Kander with Carn an Tuire behind.

And from the same spot back down to Dubh Loch, with the White Mounth on the left, and Broad Cairn and Cairn Bannoch on the right.

Top of Carn an t-Segairt Mor, or is it the far away cairn?  But what a view, across to the Cairngorms and round to Carn an Tuire.  Makes it all worthwhile.  Just an hour from the last summit too.

Hill # 4, Carn a' Choire Bhoidheach on the right, with The Stuc sticking up in the middle, and Carn an t-Segairt Beag in front.  This seems really too easy.

Second cairn looking to the first one, so I have been at the top either way.

Another look at the Cairngorms, I think that is Ben Avon sticking up mid-right, where I am headed the next day, but hard to tell.

Just off that western cairn, someone had left a bit of a Canberra wing lying around since 1956!

Going over Carn an t-Segairt Beag I disturbed a huge number of hares, some of which you can see on the horizon.  Oh for a gun!

Lochnagar from the top of  Carn a' Choire Bhoidheach, after another hour and a quarter.

Not the biggest cairn in the world.  Lochnagar again.

All very flat, apart from the V of Glen Muick on the left.  Just walked round the rest of this.

En route to Lochangar, looking back at The Stuc

Last little rise to the Cac Carn Mhor and Cac Carn Beag

Handy chopper on standby, but I didn't need it.  Some mega cycle, walk, and climbing marathon running over five days was on, and they were filming the contestants over Lochnagar.  On the right is Cac Carn Mor, not the top.

Cameraman heading back to his chopper with Cac Carn Beag (the true summit) behind

Said "athletes" heading off the top to go climb rocks.

From the top, looking to The Stuc, and Carn a' Choire Bhoidheach to it's left.

Another photographer.  Looking to Cac Carn Mor from the top, An Stuc still on the right.

Final pic of the summit, photographer and direction table.

Looking from Beag to Mor, the way home

Cliffs near Cac Charn Mor

Path back down Glag Allt, great path, but some two and a half miles!  Must be fun coming up it?

What a path.

This time it was deer.

Getting nearer the bottom than the top.

Less to go now.  Bike at the foot of this.

Loch Muick, car park at left hand end.

Right hand end of Loch Muick.  No car parks!
Got back to the car about 6, so quicker than expected, and I then drove down to Linn of Dee for my camping - see Ben Avon page for that.
