Ben Alder, Beinn Bheoil and Carn Dearg, with a night in Culra bothy

Boys weekend trip the first weekend in August, and the sun shone down.

So to Dalwhinnie railway station car park for a quick lunch before we headed down Loch Ericht.  About 10.5 miles until we ditch the bikes.

Ben Alder dead ahead

After the lochside the road heads right and we get a bit of a look at Ben Alder and the Lancet  Ridge (the pointy bit in the middle) which we didn't attempt.  To the right of that is Carn Dearg.

Loch Pattack comes into view.  To the right of Carn Dearg you can see Beinn a'Chlachair and then the back of Geal Charn

Taking a left at the hay-feeder we opted for the low road in.  Beinn Bheoil and Ben Alder dominating the view.

Ten miles is a long way in!  Ben Alder straight ahead, Beinn Bheoil on the left, and Carn Dearg on the right (with the Lancet Ridge sticking up inbetween).

Past the bothy in case we decided to camp out.

Still heading up the path, Carn Dearg on the left.

Off the bikes and a yomp over the peat hags to the Long Leachas (the easier ascent from this side).

Coire na Lethchois.  We are going up the right hand ridge.

Not as steep as it looks

Great

Fantastic

Nearing the top of Ben Alder, looking North to Carn Dearg on the right, then Geal-charn in the middle, and Aonach Beag and Beinn Eibhinn

From close to the top.  Dalwhinnie up at the top of Loch Ericht on the right.

Summit trig point, with Loch Ossian behind.

And looking East with Loch Elricht on the right, Loch Pattack in the middle, and Carn Dearg on the left

And a phone signal!

Then we headed round the top of Bealach Beithe to get to Beinn Bheoil over there.

Further round, and a view back to Ben Alder and down to Loch Pattack

On the final pull up Beinn Bheoil, looking back to Alder.

Second munro for the day.

Heading back down, Ben Alder on the left and the Lancet Ridge to the right.

Well deserved refreshment

Opted to head back to the bothy for the night. Given the level of midgies this was definitely a good idea.

Things get hazy.

Culra Bothy

Set for a cosy night.

Some later arrivals join the party and share their biscuits
The next day it was even nicer weather.

Heading up Carn Dearg, looking to Beinn Bheoil on the left and Ben Alder on the right.

Final pull up the North East flank of Carn Dearg

Yesterday's conquests.

Summit of Carn Dearg.  Ben Alder on the right.

Could still see Culra Bothy from the summit.
