Beinn a Chlachair (Once nearly and once done)
Setting off up the track, looking to the West (Loch Trieg hills) |
The long walk in, wading through the snow. |
No other walkers out, but loads of deer. |
Creag Meagaidh, across Loch Laggan. |
And at the end of January we returned up the road with Stuart for another attempt. |
Less snow, but much colder. |
Lochan Na Earba looking resplendent |
|
Creag Pitridh and Geal Charn on the left, and our hill up there on the right. The only tracks now were a set of skis and the deer. |
|
Second attempt, looking back to Grey Corries (?), Glen Spean and Creag Meagaidh in the sun. Should have done that one! |

As we went different ways on different days the following are
from the first aborted attempt. |

Just to get up there now. |

Creag Pitridh and Geal Charn catch the sun. |
What avalanche risk? |
Mighty view of Stob Coire Sgriodain I think? |
And more up. |
Quick bite of lunch before the next assault. It was about here I lost a tooth. |
Looking North West - many fine hills, I think that's Beinn a Chaoraing to the right of middle? It was about this time that we decided we weren't going to make it, and we turned back. Even without a summit it was a great day to be out on the hills, as you can see. |

It's a big one. What a vista, thought I should let it run large. Still not mastered any fancy software to display it better, so tough! From the slopes of Beinn a Chlachair looking West - Loch Treig hills, and maybe the start of the Grey Corries/Aonach Mor?, then down Glen Spean, to who knows where, and round to the North via Beinn a Chaoraing to Creag Meagaidh, Puist Coire Arhair and Na Cnapanan. Fantastic. |
And so the long walk back commences, with plenty of bogs to fall in and stuff too - what fun. |
|
Beinn a Chlachair still looking inviting. But it was too late. |
Sun beginning to disappear |
The trudge back. |
|
| And on the second attempt when the snow was less, and the track clearer, we followed it (or tried). | |
Before the steep and somewhat scary bit of climbing. And the snow and mist. Creag Pitridh would have been easier, but not as much fun! |
Steep and icy. Snow started too, just to add to the fun. |

And reunited on the plateau, safe and sound. |
This is the top, I hope. It was certainly around here somehere according to the GPS. Not much else to take pictures off unfortunately. |
So any idea how we get down now? |
Lost again. |
Oh well, lets just go this way? |
