Beinn Airigh Charr
(Rough Sheiling
Hill)
Hot weather forecast, hardly any cloud. Ideal for a challenging cycle and walk in the wilds. This is the cycle bit. Took a wrong turning to add another couple of miles and 400 feet of additional ascent to keep things interesting! |
![]() Heading along the north side of the River Ewe, what a lovely day. |
![]() At the top of the wrong way I did get a smashing view of my first hill, on the right, and two hills I had planned to do later (A'Mhaighdean and Beinn Lair), but that was not to be. |
![]() Back on the right route - with Beinn Airigh Charr ahead. Cycling with a fully loaded bike was quite challenging. |
![]() Getting closer. The bloke down the path just popped up as I was taking this, but seemed a decent enough guy. |
![]() Passing Loch an Doire Crionaich. Beinn Lair ahead, and the first hill above the cliffs on the right. Nearly at Starthan Buidhe where I camped. |
![]() At last. Arrived at the end of my cycle. Discovered two others already camped in the good spots down river, but at least my water will be cleaner! Tent was not as badly pitched as it looks. Route up Beinn Airigh Charr on the right. |
And here is the route I took for my evening stroll. I love these 3.6 mile mountains! If only there was no pain in getting to the starting point. |
![]() Ascending Beinn Airigh Charr from the west - nice and easy. Possibly Slioch on the left, and some Torridon stuff middle/right. |
![]() To the north east Fionn Loch and Dubh Loch, with Sgurr na Laocainn on the left (which I didn't do the next day) and A'Mhaighdean on the right. Bring back the Fisherfield Six. |
![]() And from the summit - someone "summit" camping - at least there were only a few midgies. Loch Maree and Slioch on the left looking magnficent. Plenty of Torridon corbetts on the right still to do. |
![]() Looking west to Loch Ewe where I started the cycle. Magnificent. |
![]() And north/east with Fionn Loch, Dubh Loch, and a squashed insect on the lens. No sign of tomorrow's"corbetts of heat exhaustion which are in the middle somewhere far away. |
![]() Another shot east - it was a beautiful evening. |
![]() Then back to the tent, and midgie hell. The other campers appeared to have gone, I wonder why! At least by now the clegs had stopped! |
| Spent the rest of the night fully covered with midge hood on,
great preparation for
the next day! |
