Cranstackie (Rugged Hill) and Beinn Spionnaidh (Strong Hill)

2021 Far North adventures - Day One
Staying just outside Scourie for the week with Sharon and my Dad, I managed a few days on the nearby hills.

Not the most inviting!  Cranstackie on the right, and Beinn Spionnaidh on the left.  But it's a long way from home so got on with it.

Approaching Rhigolter Cottage.  Cloud still clinging on up there.

Calbhach Coire entrance, and a slightly clearer top.  And for once that was actually the top.

Hill two to the left, hill one to the right.

Looking back past the cottage to the road.  Covered some distance already.

Hazy view south

Cloud down on Beinn Spionnaidh again.

Makes it all worthwhile.  Horrible boulder field.

Wasn't quite this steep, or I would not be doing it.

Glimpse of the Kyle of Durness.

Summit, with a big drop behind.  And no view while I was there.

Mostly like this on the summit plateau.

Though occasional glimpses of a world out there.

Heading down towards the saddle, with Beinn Spionnaidh ahead.

But when it cleared it was good.  Next hill ahead, then down the ridge on the left.

To the northeast I managed to glimpse Loch Eriboll.

Looking back, it appears quite benign, but there were some dodgy bits.

And a clear path forwards (for now).

Even Cranstackie looking clear now.

From the saddle looking back.

Nearly up Beinn Spionnaidh, looking south to Cranstackie, with Foinaven just visible behind.

South west

North West

Trig point on or near the summit.  Another rocky top.

Took a wander, got a view of the top and Cioch Mor down there, which was on the way back.

And a slightly better view of the Kyles and Balnakeil Bay.  Cape Wrath out on the left somewhere.  This is the most northerly Corbett.

And again on the east side, Loch Eriboll and Ben Hope

So just Cioch Mor to go - the easy bit.

Tops of the two hills done.

Pretty flowers

View back to the hill

South west

North west

Cranstackie just about holding a little cloud.  Foinaven more obvious behind.

Hills two and one, from Cioch Mor

And nearly back at Rhigolter Cottage for the 1.3 mile tedious walk across the track to the car.

Almost sunny!

But no sun on Foinaven

Foinaven finally clear.  Looking forward to coming back up here to do that.

Bit of a fish eye on the road, but good view left to right of Beinn Spionnaidh, Cranstackie, and Foinaven.  Good day out.
