Last Four Skye Munros

Am Bastier, Sgurr nan Gillean, Bla Bhein, and finally Sgur Dubh Mor

Rather wet and misty, as is often the case, but what a place!

Tuesday night I headed from work up to camp over at Sligachan and make another attempt on Am Bastier.  Must say the views were much better on the earlier attempt!

Not the most inspiring starts to the day, after I managed to miss the meeting point as well - things can only get better?

A rather wet Sligachan.

Big party ahead of us, as we strolled up Coire a'Bhasteir - a tricky path to follow

At Bealach Basteir - time for my second attempt on Am Bastier (up to the right) and down the Bad Step.

Pictures of the "Bad Step" which I have stolen..

Oh look, the top of Am Bastier, wasn't that easy (or at least easier than what was to come!)

The view from the top - I think that is the way back down?

Guy leads off back up the Bad Step.  I had the pleasure of coming down first so it's only fair.

Will and Laura are next
Then it was back to the bealach, and up Nicholson's Chimney to get onto Sgur nan Gillean.

And this is another stolen picture of somone coming down it.
On a dry day

Given the weather and my abject fear I have no pictures of the chimney, but this is me delighted to be on the top of Sgurr nan Gillean but really worried about getting back down!

Will and Laura were a bit more relaxed.

And Guy was in his element.

Not much of a summit cairn either!
How to come back down Nicholson's Chimney (again not mine, found this on You Tube).  Not as bad as going up to be fair.

Back to the Bealach to collect our bags and get to the pub.  At last.

Sligachan campsite, after the rain.  Our hills are in the mist behind the pub on the right.
Day Two - No guide and no rain!

Still enough clag to hide the hill tops.

At least the path was easy enough to follow.

Starting to ascend the scree

Not sure if that is the route up or the route down!

Summit of Bla Bhein.  It was actually quite busy, despite the evidence.  And a great vantage point to survey the Cuillin!

Alternative route of descent over the South ridge - I declined.

Back down the scree - with more people coming up.

Loch Slapin finally visible again.

Easy route finding, if difficult walking!

And back to the flat path out, then to the car and round the Cullin to Glen Brittle for the night.

Not a bad spot.

Tent up, beer open, time for a look at the hills - Coire na Banachdich to the left and Coire Lagan to the right.  Coire a' Ghrunnda sadly round the shoulder to the right.

Loch Brittle over the Muscle Scalp.  A very pleasant evening.

The opening to Coire a Ghrunda just visible.

Coire na Banachdich still holding onto the mist.

Sand flowing
Day Three - No guide and no rain!

An omen?  Rainbow over Loch Brittle.

Entrance to Coir a' Ghrunnda - most impressive.  Keep left.

And looking back out over Soay to Rum and Canna.

Nearly at Coir  a'Ghrunnda, with Sgurr Dubh na Da Bheinn (my first hill) looking impressive.

Loch Coir a' Ghrunnda, with Caisteal a'Garbh-choire in the middle, and Sgurr nan Eag to the right

Must be a noisy sleeping shelter with the water lapping in?

Possibly the top of Sgurr Subh na Da Bheinn.  Cold and misty anyway.

The best view of Sgurr Dubh Mor, through the mist and snow.

En route.

One end of the top of Sgurr Dubh Mor, maybe?

Another end of the top of Sgurr Dubh Mor

Or was it this one that was the end of the top?

After a bit of concern it turned out I had come the right way back.  Loch Coir a'Ghrunnda, with Soay behind.

Keep right on the way back down, or you could end up here = bad.  I would recommend climbing back up, as the alternative down the river and over the slippy slab is not much fun, believe me!
Though quite picturesque.

Final look before heading back to the car and the long drive home.  I will be back.
