Cairn Gorm and Beinn Mheadhoin

A great bit of the world, but quicker on skis!

Starting the walk up Sron an Aonaich, overlooking Coire Cas

Summit of Cairn Gorm - cold and misty.  But only an hour from the car.  Not as quick as The Cairnwell but pretty quick for a munro all the same

Did I mention it was icy?

Heading West to the top of Coire Raibert - that big group of skiers sat down there while I walked all the way down to the drop off at the end.  Beinn Mheadhoin on the left in the mist.

Just past the skiers, the mist lifted enough to get sight of some of the tors on top of Beinn Mheadhoin.  Carn Etchachan on the right, and the route goes down, right, then back up to the col opposite.

Final descent to Loch Avon.  Not quite as dodgy as it looks.

From the head of Loch Avon, Beinn Mheadhoin on the right.  Route goes over it and round the other end of the Loch.

The Shelter Stone, and the head of the glen

Loch Avon

Climbing up the other side, two guys skied down the fissure on the left while I was watching!

Climbing the shoulder of Beinn Mheadhoin looking West to Carn Etchachan and Carin Lochan

Loch Etchachan, a 3000 foot high loch!

Summit plateau not promising great views!

The summit tor

The side that you can climb up!  Not today.

Impressive views from the top.

Looking across Loch Avon to the Saddle, and the climb back up to the Ptarmigan restaurant plateau to get home.

More of the same

Loch Avon from the East.

Beinn Mheadhoin from The Saddle

Another view up Loch Avon to Carn Etchachan and the Shelter Stone

Beinn Mheadhoin again

From The Saddle, with my route up on the left, Strath Nethy in front, and Bynack More to the right

Top of Beinn Mheadhoin clear now that I am down!
And then a climb back up to the Ptarmigan, and down to the car and home.  20 more to go!
